HERITAGE STEAM CODES OF PRACTICE
'CRUNCH TIME'
As a follow up to the last update in the December 2006/Januray 2007 issue of The Old Machinery Magazine the time has come for people to register their interest in signing up to the Heritage Steam Codes of Practice. This is needed so that we can demonstrate to Government agencies that there is active support within the steam community to self regulate as well as identifying people who are willing to serve on the Steam Management Committee. To put it succinctly the small team doing the work needs support and to date it has not been forthcoming!
for the Codes of Practice to Ron Jackson, and as a minimum please include:
Your Name
Address
Contact phone number
Current steam operator qualifications if any
If you are willing to serve on the Steam Management Committee please also indicate.
Please do not include details of engines you own as the intent is not to collate a register of engines. Please note that the privacy of your details will be respected and treated in a confidential manner.
The information is required by 18 May 07 so that timely decisions can be made. As not everybody receives The Old Machinery Magazine please spread the word among members of the steam community. For those who do not have email access you are welcome to contact Magazine staff to register your support or work through a friend who has email.
We have strong support from the Federal Government's Office of The Australian and Safety Compensation Council to train and certify operators as well as develop procedures for heritage boiler inspection, repairs and construction. This is at a time when this knowledge has virtually been lost within Industry and Government agencies.
This will be our one and only opportunity to self regulate with procedures recognised nationally. Whether this proceeds and becomes a reality is now in your hands.
Gary Barker.
