INAUGURAL STEAM MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE ELECTED

On Friday 20th July, 2007, at the National Historical Machinery Association’s Annual General Meeting, held at Biloela in Queensland, there were four nominations for the four positions on the inaugural Steam Management Committee (SMC), and it is pleasing to report that the appointments through to 2009 are:

Chair: Mr Bob Butrims Register Secretary: Mr Ron Jackson
Treasurer: Mr Kevin Lord
Technical Director: Mr Gary Barker

The purpose of the SMC is to administer the Codes of Practice, and the original committee that voluntarily formed a few years ago, has been retitled as the Working Group and will continue to develop the Codes. Contact was made with people who indicated a willingness, via the registration process, to assist with development of the Codes but, sadly, the response has not been positive. The Codes will not write themselves, and volunteers are always welcome. As with anything that is new, there are always misconceptions about what the Codes are about and what it means to the individual. To assist in spreading the ‘correct word’, our plan is to issue an electronic newsletter on a regular basis, and this will be sent to everybody who registered, and will also appear on The Old Machinery Magazine website, within the Steam Section (see www.tomm.com.au) It is not too late to register: follow up with Ron Jackson at ron.jackson@bigpond.com

Gary Barker.
