Bob had been looking for that extra off-farm income, and soon found himself work in the form of windmill erections, repairs, and maintenance. Southern Cross had just brought out the new Z-pattern windmill. The farming district of Elgin in the then Road Board of Capel was mainly butterfat milk and fat cattle production.
