Standing Guard
1 min read

I was recently in Western Australia, travelling down the Western Highway, when I came to the closed-off turning to the bleak township of Yarloop. ‘Standing guard’ at the turnoff was a lone vertical boiler, almost the sole survivor from the famous workshops. Looking through my collection of old boiler catalogues, I thought it looked like a Spencer-Hopwood or locally built to their design. Seeing the security guard at the barrier made my heart go out to the folk of Yarloop. *Paul. Email: paul.yunnie@hotmail.com
